How do visual inspection and confronting sellers work?

Cigarette packs, food stamps, medical injectors and packaged food can carry counterfeit traits or damage. Before you pay, drag the Magnifying Glass over the item and compare it with the matching handbook.

1. Check the physical details: Look at logos, spelling, security seals, serial numbers, indicator colors and casing wear.
2. Mark a verified fault: If you spot a discrepancy that matches a counterfeit or defect rule in your manual, select that fault during the negotiation.
3. Confront only when sure: Calling out a genuine flaw forces the seller to drop their price. Guessing without checking can sour the deal and cost reputation.

The Illiterate starting perk blocks guide reading, so you cannot check handbook pages at the counter.

How do formal appraisals and certificates work?

You can also appraise a client’s item and issue an Appraisal Certificate.

When an appraisal client arrives, check every gradable detail before you set the certificate value: material, condition, serial or factory markings, and any special edition or attachment.

Completing 10 perfect appraisals unlocks the An Eye for Value goal on the Steam achievements list. An ordinary completed appraisal pays a fee, but only an exact match counts toward the achievement. Hotfix 1.0.0.1 fixed a fullscreen bug on ultrawide and other non-16:9 displays, where Appraisal Certificate tooltips drew behind the window.

How does relabeling interact with buyer checks?

Labelers let you rename owned items or apply a new product label. Relabeling an item for the first time unlocks the Lower Levels Special achievement.

Customers do not all inspect labels with the same care. The Mentor’s note treats relabeling as a risk: it can increase the sale price, but getting caught costs reputation.
