Probably Stolen After-Hours and Scavenging Guide
Plan Dumping Grounds and Commissary trips, pack a backpack and bandages, and see which perks change the night out.
What happens when you leave the store after hours?
Closing the shutter at the end of the trading day brings up your evening choices. You can set up overnight machines and go straight to sleep, or leave the store for the Dumping Grounds or the Commissary.
Since hotfix 1.0.0.1, the “Go to sleep” tutorial hint waits until you are back in the store, and pressing Escape while traveling does not open an empty pause menu.
A night out usually cuts the next morning’s customers, unless a perk offsets the delay.
How do you scavenge at the Dumping Grounds?
The Dumping Grounds let you search for scrap, materials and discarded goods for free, at the cost of injury risk and bag space:
- Select a backpack before leaving: You can only bring back what fits in the container you carry out. Anything left on the ground when you depart is lost.
- Watch each search: A search can cause a minor or major wound. Treat it with bandages before you keep searching.
- Bring tools: A Scav Scanner and scavenging tools help you sort the haul. Scrap and parts go to the furnace or printer. See the recipes table.
How do the Commissary and other night errands work?
The Commissary is a separate after-hours stop that redeems food stamps for supplies. Check the stamps with the magnifying glass before you leave. Counterfeit paper wastes the trip.
Check your daily shop routine before walking out the door: any machine that needs an energy cell or raw input for the night must be loaded before you finish the evening.
Which perks affect after-hours trips?
Several starting perks change how often you can go out and how safe scavenging is:
| Perk | Point cost | After-hours effect |
|---|---|---|
| Proficient Scavenger | +1 | Two extra searches per trip |
| Short Sleeper | +1 | Retain customers the day after an outing |
| Welfare Program | +1 | Unlocks the Commissary and grants wealth-based Monday stamps |
| Careful Scavenger | 0 | Two fewer searches, but no search injuries |
| Agoraphobia | −1 | Requires two store nights between outings |
| Banned from the Commissary | −1 | Blocks the Commissary and food stamps |
| Degenerative Osteoarthritis | −1 | Scavenging limit declines each week |
| Maimed | −2 | Disables scavenging completely |
Pair Short Sleeper with Proficient Scavenger for two extra searches per trip, or with Careful Scavenger for fewer searches and no search injuries, without cutting the next day’s customers.
